I started this project in 1985, so its been 25 years in the making.I did a six month work placement with Manpower Services Commission in Sheffield, UK. I was reading Psychology at Brunel, B.Sc. (hons). We developed the first touch sensitive computer system to access job information on a national scale. (FÁS have got one). I installed the first system in Bournemouth. Tested it for three days, interviewed users, wrote a report and we were all very pleased. Of course Icons per say werent really invented then, let alone Micons . Um, sorta didn’t have The Internet either….. Interestingly it was a bunch of psychologists who developed this system. Just waiting for a touch screen now, but thats Only Hardware.

This is my Global Warming Micon. It is Moving, but so do animated Gifs. Whats different is that it delivers a message. Perhaps we have to change the idea of the M = Moving. Perhaps a better definition is M = Message. So I Micon is a Message icon…I designed this. If you look at the message itself. It has a picture of the Earth then a series of nature images. But images have an impact but look at the moving message. The lizard in the desert (dersertification) zooms into his eye, the fish zooms in, the turtle zooms in . They are appealing to you “Looking at you right in the eye” Nature is sending you a message. The Tiger, its their year, looks at a child, what kind of planet are preparing for our children? The wise Tiger looks at the child “What are your parents doing to us?” What is happening to our Earth? Its getting Warmer Every millisecond. ITS ON FIRE! See? So how powerful is the Micon? So here is the Earth Clock Micon which can be viewed by those poor iPad users who can only view 60% of The Internet AND want to pay to read books when all the most important books are free. Just visit my Library.

There is also perhaps another definition. Not Moving Icon nor Message Icon but maybe MOVIE Icon. Of course the commercial implications are temendous with these MEDIA Icons. Toyota showing their cars with a message, Sony, Guinness, Drink Awareness, etc etc Everybody will want a Micon…you get my drift. I give you Micons and Only Micons because you dont really need text.

Flat Fact :

Hyperland is a 50 minute long documentary film about hypertext and surrounding technologies written by Douglas Adams and produced by BBC Two in 1990. It stars Douglas Adams as a computer user and Tom Baker, with whom Adams already had worked on Doctor Who, as a software agent.

The self proclaimed “fantasy documentary” begins with a shot of Adams asleep by the fire side with his television still on. In a dream, Adams, fed up by game shows, commercial and generally non-interactive linear content, takes his TV to a garbage dump, where he meets Tom, played by Tom Baker, a software agent that shows him the future of TV: Interactive Multimedia.
Much like Apple Computer’s Knowledge Navigator concept, Tom acts as a butler within a virtual space populated with hypertext, sound, pictures and movies represented by animated icons. The documentary is centered on Adams browsing these media and discovering their interconnectedness, leading him for example from the topic Atlantic Ocean to literature about the sea to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge to the poem Kubla Khan by the same author to Xanadu and back to the topic of hypertext via Ted Nelson’s Project Xanadu.

Many aspects of the documentary show Adams’ love for Apple computers. In the beginning a Macintosh Portable can be spotted and most of the projects presented run on Apple Hardware. Even the general design of the animated icons featured in the dream is inspired by Mac OS icons.

The dream (and the documentary) ends with a vision of how information is accessed in 2005, that bears some resemblance to virtual reality scenes seen in the film The Lawnmower Man. , two years after Hyperland was produced.[citation needed] It can be argued that, apart from that graphical representation, the documentary draws a quite accurate vision of hypertext and how it is used today, especially considering that it predates the first Web browser.

• About 20 odd years ago my cousin, Venetia, found an old photo album in her attic. She wrote to me and asked if I wanted it.. I didn’t reply but about a month later a package arrived at my dad’s house. I opened it and felt a bit sad. I asked him to keep it for me. He died 6 years ago. There was a box of junk that his second wife (who I hate by the way) was going to throw out. I rescued it and stuck it in the office attic. I found it last month when I was doing some cleaning out. I have a camera phone and this is what I got. There are two pictures that I put in that are not about me. If you guess which two you get free space on the site. The rest are from 1949, one was taken in April 1949, one month after I was born.

1949 ~ 1952 Touch me for Site Info

I was born at approximately 7.30 am on March 26th 1949 (It was a Tuesday) at Wembley Maternity Hospital, Honey Pot Lane, London N.W.10.

• We lived at 858 Harrow Road, Kensal Green, London N.W.10. It was a wonderful house. Dead Opposite Kensal Green Cemetry.
• Aunty Daisy and Uncle Stan lived on the ground floor and basement with their daughter Margaret; Aunty Pat and Uncle George lived on the middle floors with their sons Richard and Colin and we lived on the top floor. Two rooms, Mum, Dad, Pip, my step-brother, and me. Dad was a working class cockney from Poplar in the East End. Pip used to call my mother Mater. Our kitchen was on the landing. The living room (3rd Floor) Looked over the vast Kensal Green cemetry which was to become my major play ground between ages six and ten. It was a great house, I grew up with three mothers. Aunty Daisy, Aunty Pat and Mum were sisters. Women have been very powerful in my life. My mum was my best freind. She taught me how wonderful books were; she taught me how to think and she taught me that having a flaming row, running out, slamming the door and coming back three hours later to say “Im sorry” was ok. • Then there was Guernsey. My grandmother and grandfather and their younger sons, Peter, Dave, Terry, and Tom. Just a taste :
• Uncle Dave wouldn’t take me on the back of his motorbike; Uncle Peter leaned over his sholder and shouted “we’re doing 90 Phil”. They once bounced me on every bed in the house, while I screamed hysterically with laughter. Uncle Dave was teaching me how to shoot with an air pistol from the upstairs window. He broke a window. When Nan came screaming up the stairs he put the gun in my hand and shrugged his shoulders. I was sitting in the kitchen alone in the house. The front door opened and in walked the milkman. He said hello, went to my grandmothers purse, opened it, took out the exact money for the milk and left. I spent six weeks there every summer for twelve years
• Guensey is quite important in my life. FYI : Jersey sucks but has prettier cows, and its about 7 miles long. We sorta had own beach called Gabbers (it doesn’t have a real name but all the women used to go there and chat and knit. Knitting was really important. I learned to knit there with ten of my mates sitting on the slipway. Of course “Guernseys” are a famous sweater, I always had a Guernsey, blue oiled waterproof wool. I was in the newspapers once. The night the white bait came in, I was on the beach laughing picking up little siver fish by the handfull. In the harbour people were lowering baskets into the sea and lifting them up full of Mackeral who had followed the whitebait. A man gave me a mackeral, it was about a foot long so I tied a piece of string around it and dragged it through the streets to show my nan. She was dancing at a gig grandad was playing at. I dragged it proudly across the dance floor to show her. Someone took a picture and it made the papers. I think I was four. There are two important dates in Guernseys history. 1204 when it left Normandy and 1945 when it was liberated from The Germans by my dad. During the English Civil war it sided with Parliament while Jersey sided with the Royalists (See, I said Jersey sucks). In 2003 Guernsey had a GDP of £2.3 Billion, is not a member of the EU, and has its own TLD .gg

The hero Kilgore Trout doesn’t believe him so with a few strokes of his pen The Author wisks the hero around the world. The hero gasps and falls to his knees. The Author says “Do you want something?” The Hero says “Make me young” The last page is a hand drawn picture of Kurt Vonnegut, a single tear rolls down his cheek. I think we have a Universal Truth here. Humanity’s deep rooted desire to leave a legacy, to have a raison d’etre. So much of the universe we inhabit appears chaotic. I tie it in with “The Day The Earth Stood Still” where Human Beings are to be wiped off the Earth because their Arrogance is destroying it. But they are saved because they are special. I am reminded of the Aliens in “Artificial Intelligence” [AI] The Aliens tell the robot child that Human Beings are Unique in the universe. They also say Nothing Ever Dies. O. I have An Experiment Running.. Its a Café on Facebook Called The Hard Rock Café, its run on Real World Paradigms…

The owner has a profile. He is an ex-vet but lost his job when the factory closed. He is ablout 45. He always dreamed of having his own café. Doesn’t know anything about running a café but is convinced if he works hard he will make it. He knows how to make a burger, they cost him 15 he makes 60 on 12 servings. The rest he will learn. Like fruit salads are cheap you can make a 100 of them but you only get 1 coin per serving BUT the customers love them! The Important Stuff He Knew was :
• Bums On Seats, so maximise seating but take into account :
• Get ‘em in – Get ‘em out, Its a café not a chat room
• As far as possible try and create a waiter/waitress section, in a real café each waitress has their own area to cover
• Three Cooker Areas, Long Dishes, Medium Dishes, Fast Food. (As a general guide line)
• Maximise Customer Satisfaction , well they come in, find a seat immediately, get served immediately and leave. The tables are cleaned immediately! In a busy cafe you do not want to sit at a dirty table. Always keep the cookers spotless, never let food spoil (flys buzz around it ugh)
• Time Mangement/Cost Effective is vital. Dishes are prepared up to two days in advance (christmass Gingerbread House was 5 days in advance. VIP Dishes were only available for 24 hours, I managed 12 servings on six stoves. The café has to be profitable.
• Dress Well, Be Noticed, Love The Sunglasses and Tux Staff should look good too
• Make the place look nice, Grannies Cookoo Clock, Poster of Paris – he plans to go, The Moose he and his mates shot. The skull candle holder from his biker days, Silly dog by the fireplace of course…..

I started a new venture on Wednesday., putting Wedding Albums on the web. Our local hotel is having a formal wedding fair so I thought I would have a stand. Hmmm. I registered weddingsontheinternet.com on Thursday morning , it seemed like a good name. I designed a web page.

I suppose I should explain who we are….[I forgot...saw a ladies telephone number in the printer on Tuesday and jotted it down, she does flowers. You cannot distinguish between what is real and what is virtual. The human in me says it is all real. The buddhist says it is all virtual. Whatever the perspecive, it is all one.

I twittered “No No Go Go http://OnlyDragons.com eat Antonomic Hamsters” because BBC Radio 2 said Go Go Hamsters are in trouble because of levels of Antonomy . Dragons Tongues have to be Flame retardant one of the uses of antinomy Go Go Hamsters are Hot for Christmas. Where is the news? I cannot find a link to bit.ly it. this is not a paradox thats Antimony.
